You’ll feel like a kid on your birthday when you unwrap your new bike. Either way, it’s shipped directly to your door. If you like shopping from your couch, you can order a Redux direct from Raleigh or purchase it from Amazon. Neon chartreuse paint and reflective stickers make this Redux hard to miss. The neon chartreuse paint and reflective logos stand out, but the Redux’s true strengths are excellent performance and value. The WTB Horizons are excellent multi-surface tires: fast rolling with predictable grip. The TRP disc brakes modulate well, but are a bit weak. The smooth-shifting Shimano Acera 1x9 drivetrain is geared on the low side–a welcome change from urban bikes seemingly geared for land-speed record attempts. It’s pleasant to ride in many situations, but doesn’t have the caffeinated feel that some riders may want for fighting traffic in a dense urban core. It’s quick and smooth riding, with well-balanced steering.
The Redux is compact and laid out for a head-on-a-swivel position. Plus, less equals light: The Redux is easier to carry than most bikes of its kind (the aluminum frame and fork also help). Though less convenient than buying a fully equipped bike, it allows you to add only what you want or need. The Redux 2 is devoid of fenders, racks, a bell, lights, and a kickstand. If that’s not your preference, you can choose to have your bike assembled by a local Raleigh dealer or Beeline’s mobile bike service-both at no charge to you. The included tools and instructions make assembly at home a snap.
